Exploring the Subgenres of Metal: Death Metal

Brief History: The two bands the pretty much help to create Death Metal are Venom and Slayer. Venom had the hash sound mixed with the satanic themes of their music. Slayer had the speed and violence. Possessed, some has the first true Death Metal band, was a huge part on developing Death Metal. They released their depute album, Seven Churches, in 1985. But their was another Death Metal band coming up and their name was Death. Hailing from Florida, which in the 80's (And some could say today) seems like the Death Metal capital. Death released their 1987 depute called Scream Bloody Gore.

Exploring the Subgenres for Metal: Thrash Metal

Brief History: The 80's was the best decade for Thrash Metal. Let's start off with first Thrash Metal album that was released by Metallica's in 1983, Kill 'Em All. Less than six months later Slayer's depute album, Show No Mercy, came out. Fast forward a year and you have all these Thrash Metal bands starting to come out. Anthrax released their depute album Fistful of Metal. Exodus deputed Bonded by Blood. And both Slayer and Metallica released their second albums (Slayer's Hell Awaits, Metallica's Ride the Lightening). In 1985 the final of the "Big 4" bands released there depute albums, Megadeth's Killing is My Business... And Business is Good! But their are two bands that also released their depute albums that don't get that much credit, Kreator's Endless Pain and Sepultura's Bestial Devastation EP. In 1986 you see the release of three Classic Thrash Metal albums release by Metallica (Master of Puppets), Megadeth (Peace Sells... But Who is Buying?) and Slayer (Reign of Blood). In 1987 Anthrax released their third album Among the Living and Death Angel released their depute album The Ultra-Violence. From 1987 to 1989 Overkill (A really under rated band) released three albums (Taking Over, Under the Influence, and The Years of Decay). And then in the 1980's Metallica released ...And Justice of All, Megadeth released So Far, So Good... So What! (Their best selling album) and Testament released Practice What you Preach.

Israeli Thrashers SHREDHEAD to release 'Death is Righteous' on Mighty Music January 12

Israeli Thrashers SHREDHEAD are set to release Death is Righteous January 12, 2015 on Mighty Music.  Mixed and mastered by Tue Madsen (Suicide Silence, The Haunted, Aborted, Sick of It All), the new album redefines SHREDHEAD's musical style, making it more mature, more melodic, more groovy, and much heavier than anything they've done. Throughout 41 intense minutes the band blasts away with brute force. Ranging from songs that are aggressive and fast to laid back and groovy, the music is enhanced by lyrics that hit close to home. The name of the album describes the concept, which is that death comes to us all in the end, just as it should. These 11 tracks map the way to self-destruction, in all of its aspects and forms in a life that needs to end. On Death is Righteous the now Berlin-based group brings what's true and honest with a relentless energy that resonates from the first note to the last word.

Album Review: Tyrant by Averisons Crown

When it comes to listen to new Death Metal albums I look through the album covers. And if I see an album cover that catches my attention. And this album cover really got my attention.
This is a pretty good album from start to finish. But for me there isn't a song that really stands out to me. Sometimes I could listen to two songs thinking that it is the same song.
But Death Metal is Death Metal and this album doesn't change anything about that. But this is still an album that you should give a listen to if you like the genre of Metal.

Rating: 7/10

Shadow Kingdom Records Reissuing Manilla Road's 'Out of the Abyss' January 13, 2015

Shadow Kingdom Records will reissue Out of the Abyss, the seventh full-length release from Wichita, KS' MANILLA ROAD on January 13, 2015. Originally released in 1988, Out of the Abyss is an under-appreciated gem, one that guitarist/founder Mark "The Shark" Shelton describes in the reissue's liner notes as containing "some of the most brutal material that MR has ever done. Shelton goes on to say that "it was the last album in an epic quest by Randy, Scott and I to be as fast and furious as possible with some of the songs...and most of the topics were quite dark and based on Cthulhun mythos or other horror and mystery directions."

The album also features the extraordinary work of talented Artist David Csicsely known for his illustrations of Mournful Congregation, Solitude Aeternus, Wheel, Flight of Sleipnir releases. The album was recorded by Mike Bridavsky at Russian) in Bloomington, IN and later mastered by Tony Reed  (SAINT VITUS' "Lillie: F-65). CORSAIR Release Album Trailer Video for 'One Eyed Horse'

US-based prog rock/metal outfit CORSAIR have released an trailer video for upcoming Shadow Kingdom Records release One Eyed Horse. Check it out at this location.

One Eyed Horse is scheduled for a January 2015 release. The video documents the brief but diligent sessions at the White Star Sound studio, located on a beautiful rural farm in central Virginia. It serves as a window into the making of the album with in-studio footage coupled at times with raw audio of the basic tracks straight from the board. Artfully done by CORSAIR's friend and colleague Matthew Gatto, it's a short glimpse designed to drum up interest and promote the album preceding its release.

CORSAIR are a heavy, dual guitar driven band based out of Charlottesville, VA. Active since 2008, with two EPs, one full length and upcoming full-length One Eyed Horse to be released by Shadow Kingdom Records. This past year has been particularly busy with studio time in December '13 and January '14, a European tour February through March, and the late spring/summer spent mixing and mastering. Onward we go!

Praise for CORSAIR

"This co-ed Virginia quartet's first full-length is as confident and realized a debut as has come down the metal pike in many a moon. Two instrumentals ignite midway between '70s fusion and '80s Metallica; seven songs with words alternately set mythic D&D play-by-play to relaxed NWOBHM or the toastiness, tunefulness, rhythm and calm of classic Thin Lizzy. Criss-crossing guitars of Paul Sebring and Marie Landragin warm prog intricacy with blues á la the great lost Chicago band Winterhawk. Landragin finally takes vocal reins in "The Desert," and closes the set traversing Yes-like topography."- Chuck Eddy, Rhapsody

"The Ghosts of Proxima Centauri are plenty haunting, and one gets the sense that Corsair have the means to make the most of their growth in the time to come. Hope to catch them at Beta Centauri or coming to a star system near you." TheObelisk.net

"At the intersection of Clutch, Thin Lizzy and Hawkwind lies Corsair, with their beautifully vintage guitar tones, emphasis on often-harmonized leads and solos, drifting and yet energetic prog-jam tendencies, and hints of hazy psychedelia." - Last Rites

"Ghosts of Proxima Centauri is unique work I can't recommend highly enough - I mean, Slough Feg, Falcon AND ELO?? Get outta here! Great, unique sound, 'Adventure Rock' supreme!!" - Hellride Music

"Yes: beautiful, is not Ynwie-Malmsteen-dudelig. We are talking about very tasteful, fresh, intelligent composed riffs that you want to hear again and again. So was the 1983 Iron Maiden also: They wanted to replace the same record over and over again. And so what happens truly not often nowadays!" [9/10]
